This post will take a while to write :) There are always so many funnies in the Shawler's, Inc household.
Gma and I went to the doctor on Sept. 14. He told us we were both doing great! She immediately went home and fell. This, OF COURSE, is only funny because the goose egg (or ostrich egg as one of my friends called it) turned out to be a bump and nothing more. She didn't have a problem with confusion-- more than normal or any of the other things that go with serious injury that follows a bump on the floor at "top Gma speeds". It was probably actually that top Gma speed that kept her from getting hurt worse.
"Top Gma Speeds"-- that is a term coined by Andy because even before she was old, she was not a fast mover. So, when she went on a walker, she pushes it through a room or down a hall at a speed that would allow any tortise in the world to beat her. She can still get around with that thing though and in her life, there is never a need to be speedy. When I need her to be speedy, we put her in a wheelchair and away we go.
We spent a fun weekend with Andy and family. We went to a Corn Maze... never quite got to the Maze part. There was so much for the guys to do we just let them do what they wanted. There was a huge jumping pillow and a "cow train". The cow train was not much of a favorite with Holliday although she was a good sport and rode with her guys anyway :)
That is AIDAN behind his daddy although he ended up riding in front of mommy because of safety.
After the corn maze we went to Der Dutchman for dinner... a family favorite! We all ate too much and then went to the hotel where A n H were staying. Of course, that time at the hotel had to include a swim. Drew's life is not complete on any visit unless I swim with him :) He rode with me to Hilliard from Der Dutchman. Who knew an entire 30 minute drive could be taken up with conversation about farts?!? Of course I knew this because I have lived with Adam and/or Adam and Andy for more than a dozen years now ;)

Directionally challenged follow up
Follow up to the trip with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dope. I arrived home the night of the dry run and there they were... sitting in my living room. So, I said. "Did you find it using MY directions?!?" Uh, no. "We ended up on Trabue, so we came home". I finally figured out with the help of a friend that the major problem here is that they can't tell which way is left and which is right. So, on Tuesday I sent my mother and Brenda to the doctor and then to meet me for dinner with a post-it note containing a bit L with an arrow and an R with an arrow. They made it to the doctor and then they made it to Old Bag of Nails but not without calling me from Macy's parking lot to see if they had missed it. Macy's is on the LEFT and almost right at the corner of Fishinger and Tremont... I thought I said "Old Bag of Nails is on the RIGHT about a MILE down Tremont". OH well, live and learn and LAUGH!!!

Are we there yet?????!!!?
OK. I have known people who were directionally challenged but this may take the cake.
Last week after two tries, Brenda (with Adam as a co-pilot) managed to find her doctor's office. She needs to get herself to the doctor tomorrow since her usual cheauffer is busy. So, she knows how to get to the doctor. We are planning on meeting for dinner tomorrow night to talk to a financial planner. So, all weekend I repeated the directions FROM THE DOCTOR to OLD BAG OF NAILS... Turn right on Fishinger; right on Tremont and then the Old Bag of Nails will be on the right in about a mile.
Brenda and Adam start out this afternoon to do a "dry run". The last thing I said to her on the phone was "Out of the doctor's office, you turn right and then right on Tremont and then Right into Tremont Shopping Center." About half an hour into the trip, my phone rings "Hello. We are in Hilliard and we can't find the Rusty Bucket!!!" "OK Lets start at the beginning... you are looking for Old Bag of Nails not the Rusty Bucket!!" "Second, if you are in Hilliard, you turned Left and not Right out of the doctor's office". "Turn around. Go back to the doctor's office and try again turning RIGHT this time."
I have not heard the final outcome of this trip so there will be an update later :)

Always something of interest
OK. Here is the latest funny in the world of AKS, inc.
Yesterday Sunny had to visit the vet for the big "snip snip". He is a good rider so I don't make him go in a carrier but after his surgery, they insisted I bring him home in a carrier. The ride home was painful for us both... he thought he was in exile and kept reaching through the holes in the carrier like "I just need to touch the outside world" because "I may never see it again". (Pic below.)
